Mozart String Quartet No. 19 in C major K. 465 (‘Dissonance’)
Alberga String Quartet No. 2 (1994)
Beethoven String Quartet No. 16 in F major op. 135
In the second of its Late Beethoven string quartet series, the Villiers Quartet presents Beethoven’s final string quartet, most famous for its finale which contrasts motives based on a question (“Muß es sein?”) and an affirmative answer (“Es muß sein”). This work is contrasted with the vibrantly rhythmic second quartet of Jamaican-born British composer, Eleanor Alberga, and Mozart’s haunting and exploratory ‘Dissonance’ quartet.
