Jeonghwan Kim’s concert focuses on the piano works that most anticipate harmonic and textural experimentation of the composer’s three piano concertos.‘Contrasts’ juxtaposes characteristic material from the Hungarian and Romanian folk dance traditions with a hint of Jewish Klezmer, the latter arguably inspired by American clarinetist Benny Goodman who commissioned the work in 1938.
