The MCR at St Hilda’s brings together a diverse and vibrant graduate student community, both academically and socially. Every graduate student at St Hilda’s automatically becomes a member of the MCR upon joining the College, unless they choose to opt out.
The MCR Committee is elected by and from the student body. Its purpose is to foster a strong sense of community, support academic and social life, and ensure that the voice of graduate students is represented in the life of the College. The Committee’s work includes:
- Representing graduate students on College committees and making sure student feedback and concerns are heard in College decision-making.
- Organising a wide range of social events such as bops, formal dinners, bar nights, game evenings, film screenings, and seasonal celebrations.
- Supporting academic life through initiatives such as reading groups, discussion forums, and peer-led workshops.
- Promoting student well-being, offering a network of support and connection.
- The MCR Committee is here to make your time at St Hilda’s rewarding, engaging, and memorable. Committee members are democratically elected, and there are opportunities to stand for election throughout the year.
Owen Green – President
Hi! I'm Owen, a second-year DPhil in Computer Science and your MCR President. I am here to make sure MCR events run smoothly (fingers crossed), represent your interests, and help make the MCR a welcoming and enjoyable place to be. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for things you would like the MCR to do, please feel free to get in touch with me at any point throughout the year. I am always happy to go for a coffee or a pint depending on what the conversation needs. I look forward to (re)meeting you all soon!
Samuel Bates – Vice President
Hi, I’m Sam, a second-year MPhil in History and your MCR Vice-President. I’ll be supporting the committee throughout the year and doing my best to make MCR life as fun and welcoming as possible. I’m always up for a chat, or particularly a pint, so feel free to say hello or get in touch. Looking forward to seeing you all around!
Annabelle Gouttebroze – Secretary
Hey! I'm Annabelle and I am a second-year DPhil student in International Relations, studying the trade of dual-use technologies. I am continuing in my role as the MCR Secretary, so you'll get lots of emails and updates from me about all the fun things we have going on throughout the year. Outside of my studies, I love climbing, hiking, and rowing. I'm always down to yap and I’m here to answer any questions you might have!
Eleanor Prince – Admiral of the Fleet
Hi! I'm a 5th Year Medic serving as this year's Admiral of the Fleet. I've been involved with St Hilda's College Boat Club across all my years at the college. I learned to row when I was a fresher in Michaelmas 2022 and still absolutely love it. I'm a great point of contact for anyone looking to learn to row, cox or get involved in any way. I look forward to seeing many of you on the river...
Alyx Hutcheon – Welfare Officer and Environment Officer
Hello! I am a second-year DPhil in Biology, and one of your MCR Welfare Officers. When I’m not rowing or chasing lions in Namibia, I provide welfare support to our lovely MCR, alongside the community at St Peter’s College in a welfare-focussed Junior Dean role.
Whether you’re looking for a friendly face to chat to, someone to craft with, or some help finding the right welfare support within College or the wider University, I’m always happy to help. Please feel free to get in touch if you fancy a chat, a cuppa, or both!
I am also continuing in my role as Environment Representative, and would love to hear your ideas for making St Hilda’s greener and improving sustainability across college!
Adam Wood – Welfare Officer
I am a third year DPhil student in Condensed Matter Physics. As Welfare Officer I can help with signposting to the different services provided by the college and in Oxford more generally. Feel free to get in contact if you'd like to talk to someone more informally about any issues you might be facing!
Yuxi (Alice) Wu – Development Liaison Officer, Social Secretary and Women's Officer
Hi! I’m Yuxi (Alice), a third-year DPhil student in Clinical Medicine. I’m taking on a few roles in the MCR this year, so you’ll probably be seeing quite a bit of me! I’ll be helping organise socials, supporting and representing women in our MCR community, and working with the Development Office to keep us connected with St Hilda’s alumni.
Across all of these roles, I hope to be someone you feel comfortable approaching. Whether there’s something on your mind, an idea or concern you’d like to raise, something you’d love to see happen in the MCR, or you simply want someone to talk to, please feel free to come and find me or get in touch. I’m always happy to listen and help where I can!
Naveed Dogar - Domestic Officer and Family Officer
Hello! I am a final year DPhil student, studying Health Informatics at NDORMS in Musculoskeletal Sciences. I work with open-source electronic health records, especially in low and middle income countries. I am serving as a Domestic Officer in the MCR, reach out if you have ideas about making the MCR a space that feels more welcoming and homely 🙂 Also let me know if you'd like to request specific snacks for the MCR.
I will also be representing student parents - I have two young boys, so any incoming parents can also reach out and we can organise relevant events or just have a chat. I love art, and food! Looking forward to meeting you all this upcoming year!
