Last week the Oxford Music faculty hosted Spectralisms, the first UK conference dedicated to spectral music. The university welcomed the keynote speaker Tristan Murail, one of the co-founders of the movement.

In the penultimate concert of the 2015-16 Series, the virtuosic French pianist Bernard d’Ascoli returned to the JdP Music Building to give an outstanding recital of ballades by Brahms, Liszt and Chopin.

The VQ New Works string quartet composition competition was hosted here on Friday 27 May and was presented by radio and television presenter Paul Gambaccini. It was a thrilling evening with some outstanding music by three up-and-coming composers.
